Tell us a little about Alex Casey Baby:
Alex Casey Baby is an “e-boutique” in that it specializes in unique and exclusive
baby and toddler gifts and products. It’s not huge, but it’s just big enough so that visitors can easily find what they’re looking
for.
What made you start your own business:
It was shortly after my first daughter was born 2 and a half years ago.
I went back to my desk-job selling semiconductors when my 3-months of maternity leave were over. From the get-go I had decided
that when it didn't make me happy anymore I wouldn't do it and that didn't take long. After an unfortunate re-organization at
work, I was determined to get out and into my own home-based business.
How did you come up with your business name:
My
oldest daughter is named Alexandra Casey. Shout-out to Sabrina Dylan who was after the inception of Alex Casey Baby!
What do
you enjoy most about having your own business:
The flexibility is second to none. I spend a lot of time in my office,
but I also hit the playground, baby group, and play-date scene pretty hard.
How do you balance family and your business:
It’s not always easy to separate myself from what’s going on in the house so I can work. Luckily, my kids have a very
loving nanny who can fill in for me when I’m working, but I’ve also been known to spend part of the day with my kids, and part of
my evening working. I have a very understanding husband!
If you could offer one piece of advice to those new in the business
what would it be:
First of all, you can’t expect to run a business (effectively) and take care of children simultaneously.
Get help. And if you think you worked hard for someone else, wait till you’re your own boss!
If you knew then what you know today
would you do anything different:
I’m much better versed in the online world today and would do many behind-the-scenes things
differently. Suffice to say, I’ve gotten quite an education in the last 2 years, and am much smarter in many ways.
